| In Colorado last year, over 345,000 tax returns were eligible to be prepared for free at Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites. Only 40,000 took advantage of this opportunity. To address this issue, the Colorado Asset Building Coalition was created to provide tax preparation, tax education and financial education to the citizens of Colorado. Advocates for Young Adults is the lead organization for the CABC. If you'd like to learn more about our organization or how to get involved, please contact Shawn Young shawn@advocates4youngadults.org |

| In May of 2008, the State of Colorado passed legislation that required Financial Literacy to be included in the State Model Content Standards. The legislation requires that Financial Literacy Standards be adopted and that the State Board of Education should find out where those standards fit in with the Mathematic Content Standards. In June of 2008, Advocates for Young Adults was awarded a grant to assist in the development of financial literacy standards and a financial literacy curriculum for the Colorado Department of Education. |
